This vintage souvenir plate was part of a well-loved collection of travel souvenirs. I believe it dates from the 1950s or 1960s***. It is a souvenir of the state of California.
***Many thanks to the Blujayer who informed me that Magic Mountain did not open until the 1970s. I checked it on wikipedia and see that it opened on Memorial Day weekend in 1971. Therefore, this plate must date from post-1971.
It has very unusual raised relief "quilted" design on the gold gilt edged rim. There is a cord for hanging in the back. It says "California" in vintage red lettering. It has multi-colored illustrations of Universal Studios, The Chinese Theater, Magic Mountain, Busch Gardens, The Wax Museum, Knott's Berry Farm, Sea Life Parks and the Farmer's Market.
There is also a silhouette of the State of California and illustrations of the State Flag coming from the capitol of Sacramento, the State Flower, the Golden Gate Bridge, a surfer and a few others. The illustrations have lots of tiny little details.
The plate measures 8 1/4 inches in diameter. It's quite heavy for its size. It is highly glazed and shows only a tiny bit of wear to a little of the lettering and the gilt rim, to be expected in a vintage piece. There is one very tiny shallow rim flake of approximately 1/16 inch, visible at 1 o'clock in photo. There are no cracks, chips, hairlines, or other issues. The colors are bright and vivid. It is in wonderful near-mint condition.
