This wonderful vintage New York City souvenir stein was part of a well-loved collection of travel souvenirs. It is hand painted with lots of little details and beautiful colors with artistic shading and blending. On the bottom, it is stamped ENCO N. Y. C. in a crown and shield mark, and also says "Hand Painted Made In Japan". I believe it dates from the early 1950s.
It has views of 6 famous NYC landmarks- the United Nations B'ldg., Central Park, the New York Skyline, the Empire State B'ldg., the Statue of Liberty, and Rockefeller Center. It features an ornate curved handle with a raised scroll and bead design. Colors are shades of blue, turquoise, pink, magenta, green, yellow, lavender, brown, grey, and tan.
The stein measures approximately 5 5/8 inches high, and 5 1/4 inches wide including its handle. It holds 24 ounces. There are one or two of the usual tiny glaze pops done during the manufacturing process, and a bit of shelf wear on the bottom and some very light crazing to be expected in a piece of this age. No chips, cracks, or other issues. The colors are vivid and unfaded and there is a nice high glaze. I would consider this piece to be in mint condition. A unique conversation piece and the perfect addition to your collection!
