Good Housekeeping Planning the Perfect Garden
by Elvin McDonald and Ralph Bailey

Publisher:  Hearst Magazines
Copyright:  1976

This volume is unique because for each of the 64 gardens illustrated in color there is a planting plan that shows exactly what, where, when and how much to plant for results as pretty as those you see in the pictures.  Alternate plantings are suggested for different climates.

The range of gardens and planting plans is complete, from the cramped, often shady spaces behind city dwellings, to high-rise terraces and rooftops; from a suburban backyard where every inch of space is utilized for outdoor living and growing vegetables to a country garden where too much space, rather than not enough, is the problem to be solved.

Half of Planting the Perfect Garden is a "Plant Finder," a handy, ready-reference indexing method that arranges plants according to their usefulness, so that you can select almost any plant found in North America by blooming time, height, uses, hardiness or color.

The "Plant Finder" can be used to select plants of all sorts for gardens by the sea, or trees with brilliant autumn coloring, or decorative bark; shrubs that provide fruit for the birds or grow no taller than three feet or flower in winter.  There are groupings of house plants suitable for greening every environment, lists of rare alpines, miniatures and wild flowers.

Condition:  Used.  Hardcover.  Dust cover is discolored and shows rubbed edges and scuffing, creases.  Pages are tanning from age.  Previous owner's "Library Of" stamp is on the front endpaper.
