This is the story of Simon Skafe, born to make a legend. He would have been a buccaneer in the Age of Elizabeth or an Empire builder in the Age of Victoria. In burgeoning modern Canada, he became a great industrialist. Such success is not won today by simple, aggressive men. Simon Skafe was far from a simple man. If you met him you would find him virile, charmingly urbane, gentle if you were weak, but if you were in his way, as ruthless as necessary, to wipe you out. Not a philanderer, Simon Skafe, but when he cared, a passionate overwhelming lover.

In David Walker's new novel you live a life with Simon Skafe. You know him, and you know the magnificent woman he loved, took. and drove away; the other woman who took from him the simple, luxurious things she wanted, and wisely left him untouched; the son, whom Skafe tried to mold; the daughter who was Simon's peer.

Here is the hard challenge of life in the immense frozen Northwest, in the sophistication of Montreal, the expensive simplicity of Gallery, an old New Brunswick Loyalist town became a fashionable summer resort. Where the High Winds Blow is a solid, strong novel. In writing this subtle story of the world of great affairs, David Walker gives us his biggest and most important book.
