Traditionally, the beads used by Embera people were made from rock, seeds, and animal teeth. Nowadays, the Embera keep this tradition, but use plastic beads, and bought in a store.
To make a beadwork item, cotton string, a minimum of 5 cm is used. Then, beads of different colors are used to sew the item.
The designs made by Embera women are inspired by nature. They also make geometric and traditional designs, learned by their ancestors.
