Antique Transferware Bathroom Toiletry Set Pink & Brown Ironstone with Shaving Mug, Vase, Covered Soap Dish, and is Marked IOWA
An antique English Ironstone “Iowa” shaving set. The piece has a rust colored floral transfer with a reeded neck and gold-tone trim. Dates back to the 1860's.
This antique ironstone shaving or toiletry set is so appealing.
The shaving mug has a 1-1/4" wide ribbed rose pink panel at the top edge. Painted in a rustier pink, one side has a simple lily, the other side has wild flowers framing a placid scene including a building, mountains and maybe a lake or meadow. These appear to be hand painted but may be transferware. They are in darker shades of pink on white background. Handle is decorative. This is American made; it is marked IOWA 7461/2 on the base. Condition is good antique. There is crazing throughout. Inside the bowl, you see some aging, the brownish discoloration shown in photos. No chips or cracks that I can see.
The toothbrush holder or vase also includes the ribbed panel. One side as a single lily and dogwood blossom. The other side frames a windmill and is also surrounded with flowers. t-1/2" tall and the opening is 2-3/4" wide. It is marked IOWA on the base. There is crazing through. Inside are some discolorations that may be stains and the upper rim has what appears to be glaze or mold imperfections
The covered soap dish matches the other ribbed pieces with a narrower ribbed band on the top. A similar simple lily painted on each side. The base is about 6-1/4" long, 4-1/2" wide, 2-3/4" high with the opening being 5-1/4" x 3-1/4".
Soap dish lid measures 4-1/8" x 6". Lilies on one edge, building matching the one on the mug on the other. 2 usage scrapes on the pink pain.
Condition is very good antique. There is crazing throughout. Inside the bowl, you see some aging, the brownish discoloration shown in photos. No chips or cracks that I can see.
Perfect as a conversation piece, shabby chic or farmhouse decor.
