Land and Water are the fist primitive elements required for life on Earth .And it is also the primitive subject that artist To Ngoc has been pursuing for over 30 years. Also included in his paintings are fire, rice, maize, batata, cassava. stork, heron,etc. As well as ordinary peasants working everyday with nature to light up and keep the fire of life forever. Land and Water exist around us.Just open your eyes and you can see Land and Water,which is immeasurable to the horizon.Rain,sunlight,storms,floods,drought,all are fierce,but vague with the pure and invisible beauty of the Creator,brimming with the abstract mystery of the spiritual life in religion and art.From this point,the artist found and by far surpassed the rhythm of time of Vietnamese villages,and made it become immortal in art with the soul and characters of the nation. To Ngoc was born and grew up with Land and Water.He was not born to become an artist,but the northern folk songs lulled and cultivated him to be an artist of nature since he was a child.To Ngoc is naive when facing daily urban life and trying to find his own self.Then he paints crazily all day and all night.The fields wavering in the light grom oil lamps and the ordinary peasants have appeared regularly in his works.To Ngoc confided:"I paint my life,my family and my neighbours,and the fields,pond-sides and rows of bamboo.Everything is mine:"It is too much for an artist to be his own self,to be present and evident os everything around him. Land and Water are artistic forms,which To Ngoc marked for himself to pursue all his life.
