Add to Cart
Huge lithograph print of the Civil War, KURZ AND ALLISON Battle of Shiloh. This was the second major battle of the American Civil War fought on April 6-7, 1862 in southwestern Tennessee. The Union army was led by Brig. General Ulysses S. Grant, Confederates by Generals Albert Sidney Johnston and P.G.T. Beauregard. It was the bloodiest battle in the Unites States history until that time, with nearly 24,000 soldiers killed, wounded or missing, and the result was essentially a draw. This 1976 high quality special lithographic print, measuring 18 inches by 24 inches, was taken from the original Kurz and Allison chromolithographs.(My low resolution image does not show any of the quality that the actual print possesses) Done in limited numbers over thirty five years ago under the most exacting original specifications, this print from Battles of the Civil War 1861-1865 is Limited Edition 2020 of 7700. We were extremely fortunate to come into this rare collection and pleased to offer the prints to both art lovers and history aficionados. It would make a marvelous Christmas, birthday or special occasion gift. This very elegant historical print would display magnificently matted and framed. Originally Copyrighted 1889 by Kurz and Allison, Art Publisher 76 and 78 Wabash Ave, Chicago, USA. When the Civil War broke out, President Abraham Lincoln asked his friend, artist Louis Kurz to visit the scene of several battlefields and camps to make pictorial representations. He drew what he saw and also what others told him they had seen. He brought a depth of feeling and perspective to war that no camera ever could. He became one of the first war correspondents, but used a canvas instead of words. From the sketches he made, Kurz later reproduced 36 as chromolithographs, together with noted engraver Andrew Allison. These lithographs make up the visual heart and artistic soul of the book, Battles of the Civil War, where this print was carefully disbound. Print will be mailed flat between stiff boards and shipped USPS Priority Mail.
