THE RUBAIYAT OF OMAR KHAYYAM, The Astronomer-Poet of Persia Rendered into English Verse by Edward Fitzgerald with an Accompaniment of Drawings by Elihu Vedder. Quatrains from the traditional Persian of Omar Khayyam. Translation by Edward Fitzgerald. Profusely illustrated by Elihu Vedder. Boston: Houghton, Mifflin and Co., 1912, a special reprint of the 1884 edition which is copyrighted to the illustrator Elihu Vedder. The artist is considered an American master and is exhibited in the Art Museum of the Smithsonian Institution. Bound in full Burgundy Morocco, with gilt title and ruled border on cover, marbled endpapers, heavy stock. No dust jacket as issued. Illustrated with 56 photo-lithograph original Vedder plates. The book is in Octavo format, measuring 6 3/8"x8 1/2" and containing 128 pages.

THE RUBAIYAT OF OMAR KHAYYAM hardbound is in Very Good+/Fine- condition. The interior is clean other than for original owner's small inscription inside front cover dated 1922. According to the Seller, the interior pages appear consistently Pristine and have no rips, tears, foxing, fraying, damp staining, separation from binding, or marks other than the inscription. The binding and book block remain tight, with only a hint of starting to a few pages (which may be the result of the publisher's "tipping in" the Vedder lithographic plates rather than actual age wear to the book). There is minor top corner creasing to the final 2 pages only which does not affect text or illustrations. As seen in the above photos, there are a very few small dark spots to front/rear covers.
