Plot:

Cassavetes plays Robert Harmon, a best selling author who writes about lonely women and their seamy lifestyles. His sister Sarah (played by Gena Rowlands) has dedicated herself to her family with such fervor that her husband and daughter have sent her away to escape suffocation. She descends upon the only person who has ever understood her peculiar brand of madness, Robert. Both are desperate to find some form of happiness, yet Robert and Sarah maintain their erratic, loving ways, taking life with the seriousness it deserves and confronting it with the audacity it demands.
