From Introduction/Foreword:

Here is a collection of regional recipes from some of the best cooks in this mountain area. Many of these recipes are old family favorites that have been handed down through two or more generations. Not only have they been tested and proven, they are, for the most part, simple and yet unusual. In nearly all of them the only ingredients needed are the basic food stuffs which we keep on hand at all times.

Some of our donors gave us their names (28), others declined because they did not want to take credit for something which they considered common knowledge.

We have put in a sprinkling of old timey recipes which are really out of date (such as sassafras jelly or hog jowl with turnip greens) but these are added because of their special interest. Most of them are standards, however, the kind that your ladies like to learn on and the kind all of us come back to time and time again.

Generally you will find that, as these “old favorites” indicate, the best recipes call for simple, good-quality ingredients such as: butter, milk, common vegetables and meat. Combined correctly, these fundamental ingredients will not need rare, exotic spices which might only “hide” the nuances of their own good flavors.

Covers are clean with only one spot under the word “Recipes” on front cover. Price sticker on front cover corner, what Grandma paid for it decades ago .... my pet peeve is ignorant sellers who deface a fragile antique with a sticky cheap price tag! My dear late grandma loved her cookbooks, recipe booklet books, cookbooklets, advertising promotional premiums ... bought mostly at yard sales, she read them all like novels, rarely cooking from them because my grandpa was either too strict with his money or because he was strictly a meat-and-potatoes-only eater. Minimal shelf wear. Gutter shadow is from scanner and NOT on item ... any shadowing or blemishes are enhanced/exaggerated by the scanner. Books are NOT from smoke-free or pet-free environment. Please see above 4 supersized image ... they are part of the description. Email with questions or requests.

Seize this scarce book for posterity, the descendants, future generations of those who contributed the recipes ... this legacy may be all there is! … Perfect as a gift for birthdays, Christmas, newborn grandchild or just to say “I love you and cherish the memories.”
