Goin' South is Nicholson's second directorial effort. And a labor of love with one of his favorite topics: cowboys. He made this about the same time he did The Shining; you can't find two more opposing films. The Shining out-shown Goin' South, so to speak, which is a shame because this film did not get the attention it deserves. Though it carries no heavy message, it's a fun flick, Nicholson-style.
