" Building on the success of the widely popular series he originated for public television,
Hugh Hewitt embarks on another quest that continues to reveal the web of
interconnectedness in America's search for spiritual meaning and enlightenment. "

" SEARCHING FOR GOD IN AMERICA
with Hugh Hewitt

... is a fascinating odyssey that traces the fiery spirited birth of the American nation, beginning with the Mayflower Compact and continuing to the present-day reawakening of spiritual consciousness. "

" Along with detailed transcriptions of interviews conducted with eight of the most distinguished thinkers and spiritual leaders of our time, author and Emmy award-winning television host Hugh Hewitt shares a remarkable spiritual anthology reflecting the nature of America's passion for truth and its ongoing search for God. "
" Charles Colson, Dr. Roberta Hestenes, Elder Neal Maxwell, Father Thomas Keating,
Rabbi Harold Kushner, The Reverend Cecil Murray, Dr. Seyyed Hossein Nasr, His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama.
" " Packed with photos and engrossing documentation, Searching for God in America introduced you to the witness of
John Winthrop, Anne Bradstreet, Jonathan Edwards, George Whitefield, Charles G. Finney, Mark Twain, and Alexis de Tocqueville, as well as the spiritual observations and lessons of Albert Einstein, Thomas Merton, Norman Vincent Peale, Peter Marshall, The Baltimore Catechism, John F. Kennedy, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King Jr., Isaac Bashevis Singer, George Foreman, Menachem Schneerson, Charles Colson, and Frederick Buechner.
These and hundreds more make this the ultimate treasury of insights into the nature of faith and the search for God in America. "

" AN AMERICAN TREASURY

The history of the American people is in large measure the story of an adventure of faith and belief. From the Mayflower Compact to today's awakening of spiritual consciousness, Americans have always accorded God, and the search for the eternal, a special place in their lives and thoughts. "

" This handsome companion to the public television series, "Searching for God in America," offers one of the most comprehensive recitations of that remarkable history ever assembled. Along with detailed transcriptions of interviews with eight distinguished thinkers and religious leaders, author and broadcaster Hugh Hewitt has prepared this remarkable anthology as a reflection on the nature of our quest for truth and the ongoing search for God. "

" The canvas of faith in American life has always been broad and colorful.
Along with the witness of John Winthrop, Anne Bradstreet, Jonathan Edwards, George Whitefiled, Alexis de Tocqueville, and Mark Twain, we find here the potent observations of Albert Einstein, Robert Oppenheimer, Peter Marshall, John F. Kennedy, Elijah Muhammad, Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, Isaac Bashevis Singer, Menachem Schneerson, and Frederick Buechner. These and dozens more make this a treasury of insights into the nature of faith. "

" Despite the deep-seated suspicions of what the author calls "the chattering class" - the vast group of intellectuals and cultural elite, including editorial writers, TV producers, the professionally opinionated, and a large swath of the Academy - faith has not disappeared in America. The search for God has not even been relegated to the shadows. "

" In these pages, Hugh Hewitt repeats that faith is as dynamic as ever before, and even though the context of our lives may have changed over the years, most Americans still believe in God as a present and powerful force, and the attempts to relegate religion to a "protected zone" have seemingly failed. "

" As testament to this fact, the volume includes challenging interviews with public figures such as Charles Colson, Rabbi Harold Kushner, Dr. Roberta Hestenes, Dr. Seyyed Hossein Nasr, and Rev. Cecil Murray.
Conversations with Elder Neal Maxwell of the Mormon Church; Father Thomas Keating, a Trappist monk and leader in contemplative prayer; and the XIV Dalai Lama of Tibet make this one of the broadest and most compelling discussions of religious thought ever published. "

" In his classic work. Democracy in America, Alexis de Tocqueville observed that "Despotism may be able to do without faith but freedom cannot."
The rich abundance and vitality of religious expression in American life, as this book and the television series attest, is evidence that America's heritage of freedom is alive and well, and our legacy of faith is as strong as ever. "
