" In this book, Tom Rockwell, a writer and the second of the artist's three sons, presents a fresh, uncommonly faithful retrospective of his father's work.
From his unique vantage point, the author introduces us to the private as well as the celebrated public Rockwell, from whose heart and hand sprang art that has captured the affection and admiration of generations of Americans. "

" In choosing images for this book, Tom Rockwell reviewed the full range of his father's work- oil paintings, watercolors, and even drawings.
Some of these were never widely published and can now be seen for the first time in many years, and many of the images shown here were photographed from the original art works so that they could be reproduced with the greatest possible fidelity. "

" During a career that spanned nearly sixty years, Norman Rockwell created more than 520 magazine covers and thousands of commercial illustrations.
Here are some of the finest, from a 1914 illustration for Boy's Life to an oil painting reproduced by Look in 1971.
You'll see works by the public Rockwell, whose illustrations were so popular that The Saturday Evening Post could sell a quarter of a million additional copies whenever one of his cover illustrations hit the newsstands.
And you'll see the private Rockwell in the warm, humorous sketches he made for his family and friends. "

" Norman Rockwell once said that he depicted life "as I would like it to be," and his keen observations and artistic gifts enabled him to realize that vision in every illustration.
To view the best of Norman Rockwell is, however briefly, to inhabit that world. "
