During a heatwave plant in a flower pot in shaded area until Fall then transfer to garden.Violet is a low growing clumping perennial with a dense, fibrous root system and heart-shaped leaves that often cup toward the petiole to form a funnel shape.
Also used for groundcover and herbal medicines
This lovely plant also makes a good salad. High in vitamins A and C it used to be a very welcome raw salad or cooked green early in the spring when fresh vegetables were hard to come by. The flowers are more often used nowadays. They can be candied and also used in jellies.
Deep violet-purple pansy-like flowers.
This plant will bloom through early Spring, Summer and again in the late fall.
