Description from the internet:
About Imola Ceramics Cooperativa Ceramica d'Imola
Among hundreds of Italian companies producing ceramic tiles, Cooperativa Ceramica d'Imola occupies a unique position. Its unceasing search for new ideas and capabilities has earned the company the long-standing reputation as a leader in its field, emphasizing the importance of research and technology while maintaining the highest possible standards of workmanship and design.
With three factories and fully-automated production facilities, Cooperativa Ceramica d'Imola is one of the five largest ceramic producers in Italy, with a range of products and activities that span the centuries and combine the disciplines of craftsmanship, science, architecture and fine art.
Its origins were in a 15th century ceramics shop in the Italian town of Imola, producing fine glazed traditional pottery. Over the many years, the business grew into a small ceramic industry. In an historic move, Giuseppe Bucci, the owner in 1874, transferred ownership of the company to its workers. The result was Italy's first cooperative, a company owned and managed by the people who worked there. The philosophy of this utopian ideal led to the adoption of the company's symbol, the industrious and cooperative bee.
In 1913, production was expanded to include wall tiles as well as pottery, and in 1922, a former glassworks on Imola's Via Veneto (Veneto Street) was purchased to become the company's first tile factory. Today, the 33,000 square meter plant is still in operation producing double-fired, decorative tiles for interiors and exteriors. These tiles have made the town of Imola and Cooperative Ceramica d'Imola, renowned throughout the world.
