This wonderful vintage Redware Art Pottery figurine is from the estate of an elderly couple. It is a stunning black swan with a blue-green drip glaze on her wings. The inside is unglazed redware clay and stamped Japan. Under strong light, the red clay shows through the black glaze and gives a coppery undercolor.
The swan measures approx. 8 inches high, 3 1/4 inches long, and 2 inches wide. There are one or two of the usual tiny manufacturing irregularities, including a small approx. 1/4 inch slit in the front of her base. No chips, cracks, or other issues. With deep, unfaded colors and a nice high glaze, I would consider her to be in wonderful condition. Lovingly displayed for many years, she would make a graceful and elegant accent piece, or a unique addition to your swan collection.
