Among the subjects discussed are crewel work, Wool pile embroidery, silk surface embroidery, memorial pictures, samplers, counted thread embroidery, Berlin woolwork, Victorian beadwork, Southwestern colcha embroidery, patchwork, appliqué, quilting, rug hooking, candlewicking, and the characteristic designs of Hawaiian quilts. Also explained are various forms of lace making, such as bobbin lace, tambour work, filet, and guipure d’art. Masterpieces of American needlework are shown in photographs. Drawings and diagrams illustrate step by step instructions for the various techniques discussed. Also included are dozens of designs and patterns derived from antique pattern books, or inspired by the masterworks shown in the photographs. Splendidly illustrated throughout, the book is a fascinating journey through history, and inspiring treasury of design ideas and a sound how to book of needlework instruction.’ This book has a lot of excellent quality black and white photographs, along with some illustrations in it. This book is in excellent condition. It looks like it was never read, or opened much. There is minor wear to the dust jacket. There is some surface wear, scratching and pressure marks on the dust jacket, along with some minor creasing at the dust jacket edges. Smoke and pet free home.
