This listing is for a vintage hardcover book, entitled The Music Lover’s Handbook. The book was edited by Elie Siegmeister. It looks as if quite a few different authors have contributed to this book. The book lists a copyright date of 1943. The publisher is listed as William Morrow and Company. The chapters of the book are: Fiddle strings and ballads, How music is made, In the concert hall, High C’s and pirouettes, Meet the composers, In our time, and Music of America. Flipping through the book, I see that there are quite a few depictions of lines of music bars and notes, not sure of the proper expression for this, that that are pictured, then discussed. This looks like it would be an interesting book for a student of music, or a serious music lover. The previous owner has written his name inside the book, so please take note of this. The book has 817 pages, so this is a thick and heavy book. The book is in good condition, especially for its age. There is some bumping and wear to the book corners, and a pressure mark on the front cover, and some minor wear on the top and bottom edges of the spine, as well as the bottom and top book edges. The pressure mark can be seen in the photo. It is an indentation in the book cover. There is some slight yellowing on the inside front and back pages. There looks like there is some slight discoloration along the book page outer edges, and a few slight stains. Flipping through the book, the inside pages of the book look to be in good condition overall, but for some reason there is some black streaks on the table of contents page, at the bottom. Page 11 has a rip at the top of the page, and some wrinkling at the top of the page. The book does not have a dust jacket, not sure if it would have had one originally. The book cover is green in color. The inside pages are not discolored. Please note that this book does seem to have an odor to the pages. The smell is similar to the two other vintage books I have listed, but it is stronger. This book is older than those books, however. I am not sure what this odor is. The smell is not objectionable, in my opinion. It is not a bad smell. It does not smell like mildew. I am not experienced with old books, so perhaps this is a normal old book smell.
