Commemorative Pottery Mug
for Queen Elizabeth II's Coronation - 1953

This pottery mug has a gilt rim
The front is decorated with a sepia photograph of Queen Elizabeth II
in a medallion surrounded by british flags, a lion & a Unicorn
the royal crown & inscribed
"Coronation Queen Elizabeth II 1953

It measures 2 3/4 inches tall -& 2 3/4 inches in diameter

I've been told by a british friend that this mug is part of a trio
that was given to every school child at the time of the coronation

The matching dish is also for sale on this site
(However I've never found the matching bowl to complete the trio.)

The rear has the Royal Crown & cypher in Gilt & red
and the date "2nd June 1953"

The bottom is marked: "Royal Art Pottery
London
Made in England"

This mug is in excellent condition, with no cracks, or crazing
However the rim while it show no visible flaws - is well worn & the gilding on the rim is mostly worn away
