Recreates the splendor and glittering past of William Randolph Hearst's fifty-million-dollar (as of 1971) estate in California.

This book was written on the 50th anniversary of the building of San Simeon, 1919-1969, and to this day no one knows exactly how much Mr. Hearst spent on the Enchanted Hill.

Contemplating what possibly could have induced a man of our time in democratic America to indulge in such unheard-of extravagance, one of Hearst's excellent biographers, John Tebbel, wrote: "Plenty of American millionaires had more money than Hearst, and most of them handled what they had with more wisdom, but none enjoyed his wealth as much. That was because of Hearst's attitude toward money. He did not regard it as invested capital or as an industrial resource. He thought of it with charming simplicity as something to spend."

The author presented his personal home movies of San Simeon to Governor Reagan and the State of California. When Ken Murray remarked, "I'll have to apologize, Governor, you aren't in this film. You were too young." Governor Reagan replied, "That's all right, Ken, I'll just keep watching the late, late shows on TV -- I can always find myself there."
