First Edition

Here is the first book to cover the career of the beloved movie, stage, and TV star, Claudette Colbert.  From age twenty-four to age fifty-eight (1927-1961), she was one of the screen's brightest ornaments and most skillful comediennes.  Before that she had spent many youthful years on the stage.  Today at the age of eighty-two she has recently appeared again on Broadway with Rex Harrison in a London revival of Frederick Lonsdale's Aren't They All?

Of all her sixty-five films, the best known was her Academy Award-winning performance in It Happened One Night with Clark Gable (1934), with its memorable "The Walls of Jericho" scene.  Among the many other hits that delighted the moviegoing audience were Cleopatra, She Married Her Boss, Tovarich, Drums Along the Mohawk, The Palm Beach Story, Tomorrow is Forever, and The Egg and I.  All of Miss Colbert's films are discussed and illustrated in this lavish volume, along with such later stage plays as The Marriage Go-Round, A Talent for Murder, and The Kingfisher, and such TV plays as Blithe Spirit and The Bells of St. Mary's.

In all, there are 238 intriguing photographs of Claudette Colbert, including many from her private life.

A complete filmography at the end of the book lists casts, directors, and producers.

Here, at last, is the long-awaited book on the inimitable Claudette Colbert.  A must for every movie fan and film historian.
