It is possible that this tray was originally a cheese tray, as I did find a few cheese trays made by CI on the internet, however the shape and look of it seem like it would make a perfect jewelry tray.
The wood is really attractive looking, with a nice color and a beautiful sheen to it.
There are several light scratches in the wood, but they are not really obvious.
The wood might benefit from a polishing or conditioning treatment.
The compartments have a perfect shape to lay a watch, cufflinks, necklace, rings etc on.
A compartment could be used for keys, or to place a small wallet or cell phone in as well.
The compartments are on the large side, and are shallow, but not too shallow, and they don't have straight up and down edges. The edges are slightly flared outwards, making it easy to access the contents of the compartment by sliding the items out and over the side.
There is a sticker on the bottom of the tray which reads CI Japan Hand Carved Hardwood.
The edge of the sticker is lifting up in some spots.
The tray measures approximately 16 inches long and 5.75 inches across.
This is a sturdy, well made tray.
Despite some scratches on the wood surface, this tray does not appear to have been used.
