for automated train operations

8947 is used to control direction of locomotive movement,
independent of the transformer. It is activated manually with
a built-in hand lever or #7272 / #72720 Control Boxes.
8947 can also be engaged automatically, by locomotives moving
over #8529, 8539, 8589 or 8590 Circuit Tracks.
8947 can be used to control movement of a locomotive in a freight
yard, locomotive maintenance area or roundhouse without affecting
locomotives on the main line.
8947 is a double solenoid device.
The yellow plug is the neutral. When current is applied to
the red plug, the solenoid causes the control bar (T shape)
to move to the left (as shown) and power from 1 is directed
to 4 and power from 2 is directed to 3 simultaneously. When
current is applied to the green plug, the control bar moves to
the right (not shown) and power from 1 is directed to 3 and
power from 2 is directed to 4.
8947 can be used to create an automatic reversing loop.
A Circuit Track, 2 Feeder Tracks and Track Isolators are required.

8947 can be used to automatically allow two locomotives to travel
in different directions, one at a time alternately, over a single-track
main line from a stopping point at a two-track station.
Two 8945 Universal Relays are also required along with Circuit Tracks,
Feeder Tracks and Track Isolators. This also allows for control of two
8939 Signals. (wiring diagram included by Marklin)
8947 can also be used to automatically reverse the
direction of a trolley or rail car at each end of a track.

One 8947 can be used along with 2 Marklin 8589 Circuit Tracks and
a Marklin 8590 Feeder Track to cause trolleys or rail cars to reverse
direction automatically when they reach each end of the track.
Place the Circuit Tracks where you want the trolleys to reverse.
The Feeder Track can be placed anywhere convenient. See the
sketch above for a wiring diagram to accomplish this.
The yellow and blue wires are part of, and attached to 8947.
You may have to add more wire to them.
