According to the Introduction:

" " MY DEAR FRIENDS IN CHRIST and him crucified. "
Thus Fulton Sheen began his homily on one of the last Good Fridays of his life.
Christ was always the center of Archbishop Sheen's life, and as that life of service to the gospel of Christ
grew nearer to its culmination, the cross took more and more the central place.
In his autobiography, Archbishop Sheen recounts how his love of Christ overcame what he calls "staurophobia" - fear of the cross.
He calls the crucifix his true autobiography, reflecting his heartfelt union with the crucified Savior. "

" These two themes - devotion to the cross and evangelism - run through this collection of readings.
They are drawn from talks by Archbishop Sheen that have never before appeared in book form.
Many come from the final talks and homilies of his life; others from talks designed for the instruction of new Catholics.

The readings are arranged here, not necessarily in the order they appeared in the original talks, but with some attention to the seasons of the liturgical year. The months of February and March introduce themes appropriate for Lent; consideration of the Passion follows, and after that the meaning of Christ's resurrection from the dead.
The month of May begins appropriately with meditations on the Blessed Virgin Mary, followed by reflections on Christ's ascension and on the person and work of the Holy Spirit. Similarly the Advent and Christmas seasons have suitable readings.

A Word from Fulton Sheen
- For Each Day of the Year

" Through the Year with Fulton Sheen is Sheen at his best - the master storyteller, preacher,
and faithful servant of Christ with a word of encouragement, counsel, and direction for every day of the year.
With characteristic insight and eloquence, he penetrates to the heart of the Christian life with reflections on love, holiness,
spiritual power, miracles, and Christ-like living.

These daily selections will provide you with a fresh perspective on what it means to be a Catholic,
on the challenge of serving God and the blessings of living a grace-filled life.

Fulton Sheen has inspired, entertained, and instructed millions of people who have heard him preach.
The author of more than seventy books, he died in 1979 at the age of eighty-four.
His career in television, radio, preaching, and writing has made his name a household word to an international audience.
