For your consideration is this beautiful 33 year old love knot necklace with a 12kt gold chain. It is a very lovely piece of jewelry. Dad had given this lovely sentiment to mom many years ago. The front side reads " like my love for you, this true love's knot is still beginning, never ending, complete, eternal ". The back side also has the love knot with a pretty intricate floral design. This was created in 1976 at the Franklin Center, Pennsylvania. It comes with the mint original presentation box that has a felt card on which the necklace is displayed. The certificate of authenticity signed by William F. Krieg Vice President Collector Relations. Also, comes with the history on a pink folding card.

Throughout history, men and women have sought to convey, in some tangible and lasting way, the love they have felt for one another. Kings and commoners alike have given and recieved personal tokens of love--carefully chosen to express this deepest of human emotions. The ancient Greeks created perhaps the first love token when they protrayed Aphrodite, the goddess of love on their coinage. The rulers of Rome followed the Greek example by depicting their loved ones on coins of the realm. In this country, medallic love tokens gained wide popularity during the Civil War. Both Union and Confederate soldiers patiently ground away the design on one side of a coin, then carved the initials of a loved one into the smoothed surface. However the passage in 1909 of federal laws to prevent the mutilation of U.S. coins did much to curb this activity.

Now the Franklin Mint has revived the tradition of the love token in this beautiful work of medallic art. Unlike the converted coins of the past. The Franklin Mint Love Token ia a superb example of the minter's art. Created by the renowned sculptor Jane Lunger from a design by Franklin Mint artist David Bonner, it is crafted in precious metal to the highest standards of the world's foremost private mint.

The Franklin Mint Love Token portrays the traditional Lover's Knot, an ancient symbol of love and fidelity whose origin is as mysterious as the knot itself. Intertwining and endless, it is a symbol that has been exchanged between lovers for centuries to express the intertwining of their lives and the unending nature of their love.

The certificate of Authenticity: This is to certify that The Love Token Pendant originally accompanied by this certificate and bearing the hallmark of The Franklin Mint was minted with a full Proof finish in solid sterling silver electroplated with 24-karat gold.

The chain measures approx 25" long with a spring ring clamp reads 12 K. The love knot has writing on the side which reads 24 KT Electroplated on Sterling, and measures 1 1/4" across. The weight is 16 grams.
