This listing is for a vintage hardcover book, entitled The Versatiles, A Study of Supporting Actors and Actresses in the American Motion Picture 1930-1955. The book was written by Alfred E. Twomey and Arthur F. McClure. The copyright listed in the book is 1969. The book has 304 pages. This book is in good condition, considering it’s age. However, there is a lot of wear to the dust jacket. There is a lot of surface wear, and some areas where the color is rubbed away. There are a few small rips, and some creasing along the dust jacket edges. There is a black marker mark across the top edge of the pages, close to the spine. This book has a lot of black and white photos in it. There are no color photos in it. The book flap says ‘One of the most important aspects of the history of the American Motion Picture has been the contribution of the character actor……But through the years he has been little recognized, often neglected, and many times ignored by the moviegoer whose wide eyed looks are only for the glamorous star. Alfred Twomey and Arthur McClure hope to remedy this oversight by presenting to the reader, The Versatiles, a collection of hundred s of photographs and biographical sketches of the finest and most often seen character actors and actresses who performed in motion pictures between 1930 and 1955. The authors were able to obtain photos and biographical information containing personal background, career background, and anecdotal material for 400 of the supporting players, and photos and brief career facts for 200 other actors and actresses.’ This book sounds like a wonderful idea.
