Extremely Rare Doulton Burslem Plate
issued in 1897 to commemorate
the Diamond Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Victoria.


 
It features a beautiful color portrait which is clear and crisp,
showing Queen Victoria attired for a State occasion.
The Queen is shown wearing the small crown and the Garter Sash.
The Queen is also wearing a fob brooch with a picture of her beloved Prince Albert.
Above the portrait is a ribbon with the Diamond Jubilee dates
and below is Queen Victoria's royal cypher.

The 1897 Jubilee was the first occasion that the makers were able to use the newly discovered process whereby a near photographic portrait could be used on porcelain and pottery.

This 7 inch plate has a border decorated in relief with acanthus leaves and a gilt lobed rim.
The plate is in excellent condition without any wear to the portrait
and is without any chips,cracks or crazing.


The Doulton Burslem backstamp is both printed and pressed into the base.
The registered design # 289848 confirms the date of it's making.
